Interloper/Gouache
This is a pit bull dog, who's breed is banned in the UK. Sometimes referred to as a 'red nose'. After watching a documentary about these dogs, I was thinking about how animal breeds can be misunderstood and the roots of behaviour for these dogs depends on their circumstances, how they are treated or raised, but they are excluded and seen as unwelcome. The pit bull by no fault of its own comes to represent 'aggressive dogs'. The word interloper involves being in a situation where you are not felt to belong and I feel many can relate to this experience, in a family, institution, culturally or environmentally. Pit bull dogs in a similar way to people who come to represent a fear or disowned feeling can be scapegoated and rejected.

Pretty Collection/Gouache
This image focuses on a magpie's tendency to collect shiny and attractive objects. This can be likened to humans' search for prestige and shiny titles or consumerism in building nests. Sometimes fulfilling a need and sometimes not.

The Lives of Places/Biro
'The lives of places, retiring to cracks in the walls.' This relates to the history and vitality of place with or without human or animal presence, but also the potency of place in peoples' lives.

Trees/Ball point pen
Forests are ancient homes for wildlife and creatures. Their place in development, play and interactions is diminishing in many cultures. Even though they are still often at the center of verbal imagery and stories.

Soft Glow/Gouache & Biro
The moon continues to glow in the darkness whether we are there to witness it or not. The sea is also a home to many creatures, a place that we only partially understand and know.

Small Birds/Felt Tip & Biro
'Small birds remembered the forest.' This relates to the loss or remembering a sense of place as part of an environment.
