Owl Eye Butterfly Wing 18 x 18 Inches Embroidery on Black Linen
I was drawn to the owl eye wing butterflies due to their complex patterns that have developed in relation to their environment. Owl eye wing butterflies have evolved to look like owls when their wings are open, as a defense against predators. These butterflies have intricate and layered markings, reminding me of the complexity of nature patterns and how this relates to creatures' environment historically. I am interested in the echoes of symbolism here between our movements as societies, individuals and smaller groups and how we interact with each other, our landscapes and environments. As well as the different patterns we develop in relation to generational transmission alongside our own experiences. This embroidery captures a deep sense of interconnectivity, sometimes appearing as an aerial view or landscape.
